Shakespeare Festival

Joanne Clark —

In 2019 we again participated in SGCNZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival. A hard-working playful group of students created a lively entertaining scene from Much Ado About Nothing which featured a very funny costume party.

This is a play that relies on witty articulation from the leads Beatrice and Bendick. Sam and Nadia both did a great job creating these characters. Each performer in the ensemble also built up an entertaining comic role, supported by a fancy dress costume that reflected their personality.

Our scene finished with a lively conga. We were proud to receive an award for “ Best Commitment to Character”. It was a big day of rehearsals culminating in an evening performance in The Grange Theatre. One of the best things about the festival is having the opportunity to watch a wide variety of scenes from many Shakespearean plays. It was wonderful to be part of such a great show with so many enthusiastic, talented performers.

“I can see he's not in your good books,' said the messenger.

'No, and if he were I would burn my library.”
