Joanne Clark —

In Classical Studies a mixed group of Year 12 &13 students along with Mrs Joanne Clark explored the influence of Greece and Rome on today’s world.

It is a multidisciplinary subject covering the history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.We looked at mythologies and their influence on contemporary films, such as Hercules and Star Wars. We studied art forms- vase painting, frescoes, sculpture, mosaics and architectures both domestic and public. Many students were particularly interested in art and did exams including Scholarship on that topic. The eruption of Mt Vesuvius and the consequent burying of Pompei was a fascinating archaeological subject to cover. The military exploits of Alexander the Great were dramatic and taught us a lot about politics too. The class enjoyed the diversity of learning and made excellent progress in their academic writing.
