Rugby League

Katrina Keenan —

Hornby High School again competed in the Senior League Nines Tournament held earlier in the year. Despite the junior tournament being postponed we arranged some games against Haeata Community College and St Thomas which were very competitive.

Rugby League is well supported here at school and whilst there is no mid week school based competition available to players, we know many of our students are actively involved in club rugby league.

The Hornby Panthers offer a great league programme and a number of our students have gone on to not only perform with merit at club level but gain representative honours at Canterbury, South Island (Scorpions) and higher levels. A number of our junior students at the Year 7 & 8 level are also showing great potential in League. We would like to acknowledge the ongoing support we receive from Corey Lawrie.

The following players represented Canterbury this season:

15s

Lincoln Nooroa

Junior Tuliokiono

Jayton Lawrie

Jaedon Wellington

Arlan Perez

Tavita Tatu

Zachary McNevin

17s

Jordan Coleman

The following players were selected for the South Island Scorpions teams:

15s

Jaedon Wellington

Arlan Perez

Tavita Tatu

Junior Tuliokiono (non travelling reserve)

17s

Jordan Coleman

Jaedon Wellington went on to be named in the New Zealand Merit team 15s, which was selected at the completion of the National tournament.
