Year 13 Dean's Report

Rowena Clemence —

Kia ora e te whānau. We are well on our way to week seven, where a year ago we were heading into lockdown. So far so good.

On our side this year is that our kura is well prepared to learn online in a far more immersive manner than this time a year ago, if we ever needed to. I encourage you to use this link to peruse our teaching sites and to encourage your young people to be onboard with email management. It is a workplace and future study skill that will set them in good stead. Teacher sites at Hornby High school.

This year we have elected to insist on student presence during study class as per last year. If you have a young person at home in a study class other than period five, they are in fact required to be at school. I know it may seem like there is no point at the start of the year, but we can tell you from many years of experience, this is the calm before the storm of assessments.

Thank you to the wonderful support our Year 13’s showed Athletics day. They were superb. We had a key group who participated, encouraged and supported, creating a positive vibe, and our prefect team made the most of their kāhui representation roles to fully embrace and encourage the kāhui spirit. I was very proud of this and the fact that the Year 13’s beat the staff in the relay race! Well done.

An absolute highlight that I am sure is being discussed elsewhere in this publication, was Polyfest. Positive, sharp on-point performances that showcased diversity and inclusion; what a way to send off our wonderful Mr Wilson (although we would rather not, but we wish him well) and what a legacy to follow.

Lenora, Michelle, Lovely, Ofa, Aira, Devie, Alyana, Roanne, Tina, Adi, Tyrepa, Selepa, Jesy, Fiona, Rapture, and Aaron (all Year 13 students), you made us proud.
