Student Learning Conference – Thursday February 15th, 1.00pm to 8pm

By the time you read this, the Learning Conference Day has probably come and gone. Thank you to all parents & whānau who came along on the day to discuss your children’s progress with the form teacher. Strong family connections with the school are an important ingredient for student success at school. We know this gets harder when children come to high school, but we also know the effort pays handsomely. We hope the extended hours to 8pm helped to make attending a conference easier to work around work hours.

Progress Report & Learning Progress Meeting – Thursday 12th April 1-7pm

A Progress report for all students will be posted on the KAMAR portal during Week 10 at the start of April. The Progress Report gives a snapshot on how your child has started the school year. There will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s subject teachers on Thursday 12th April, 1-7pm in the last week of term.

KAMAR Parent Portal

Parents/Whānau can access the school computer system (KAMAR) to check information about their child(ren). This includes attendance, reports, daily notices, term calendar, personal details, NCEA results and much more. Contact the office to be told your personal user name and password. Remember to keep this information secure.

Rebuild Update

Leighs Construction Ltd are doing a great job on our new ‘All of School’ building and new gymnasium. Both buildings are on track to be finished about Queen’s Birthday in the middle of Term 2. At that stage there will be major movements in the 9-13 part of the school (Yrs 7 & 8 will not be affected by these moves). Once we have moved into the new buildings and out of A and S Blocks, these blocks will be demolished and our three new Homebase ‘Kahui’ will be built. We confidently expect that our whole rebuild will be finished by the end of next year.

Chromebooks

Thank you to all parents who have provided a chromebook or laptop for their student(s). We are very aware that many families have made a considerable sacrifice to equip their students and we are grateful. Being digitally connected is very important for students in the modern educational world and naturally we want the best opportunities for our Hornby students.

If you are still investigating the chromebook market, ask for our latest information sheet at the office (or ask Andrea to email you one). This gives advice on our preferred supplier and the best deals. We have retained about 30 chromebooks in school ownership for students to use in class when necessary, but we do rely on parents to provide for their children.

The Google Management Licence (GML)

Every chromebook used at Hornby High School must be fitted with the GML. This is a programme which provides extra safety and security for students when they are working on the internet and also enables our technicians to easily install updates and Apps. If you have bought a chromebook from a supplier that does not pre-install the GMC you will be asked to contribute $55.00 to the school (or put it on your school account) and we will install the GML on your chromebook. Ask at the office.

Keeping our students safe and our neighbours happy.

We are aware that accessing the school from Waterloo Rd is difficult at the moment. Please remember that we have a Left turn only coming into the school. This is so that the Carmen/Waterloo Rd intersection does not become blocked. We ask that you only drive into the school grounds when you need to visit the office or have an appointment with a staff member. Exiting the school grounds is also left turn only on to Carmen Rd. This situation will improve mid-year when our first new building is complete.
