Level 2 Geography - Wainui Trip

Jan Handley —

In the last week of Term 1 Level 2 Geography students travelled to Wainui. Wainui is located in Akaroa harbour and we were lucky enough to have a pleasant day weather wise.

The students were researching various processes that occur along four beaches set into the Wainui larger beach area. They measured longshore drift, beach profiles, sediment size, and wind and wave information. This allows them to analyse what processes are occurring at each of the beaches and make comments on why they may vary across the area.

The students worked diligently as a team to collect the data efficiently and accurately.

Many of the students had not been to Wainui prior to this trip so it was great to see them visiting new and interesting places in their backyard. The information they gathered is being used back at school to create graphs, maps, photos and data tables to be used in the presentation of their data.
