Kana Shedlock-Whiu —

There are so many great things happening within our Kura. Canterbury Secondary Sport games have started. We have entered 10 teams into the competitions in netball, basketball, shooting, badminton, and football. We have a total of 130 students participating.

We are so grateful to have amazing coaches and teachers in charge to help support our rangatahi.

Year 7 & 8 Cluster Sports held on Friday afternoons
Over 70 school teams from within our community are involved. All teams are being coached by our very own talented Hornby High School senior students, developing confidence, structure, and team building in the players.
Games are played at Hornby High School, Kyle Park, and Wycola Park. A wide range of sports are on offer, from Netball through to Rippa Rugby. Behind the scenes Mr Ian Hilliard, Head of Sport at Hornby High School, is working hard putting in a lot of time and effort.

We are pleased to have so many girls interested in playing rugby this year. Combining with Hillmorton High School and Riccarton High School, the combined team is coached by our very own experienced Canterbury Rugby player Miss Chelsea Bremner. We have great athletes in the team, including our youngest player Kyra-Lee (Year 10) and up and coming Canterbury player Adi (Year 12).

We have seen huge efforts this year from our Thomson Boys' Basketball team this year. They have a new coach, Benjamin Hawthorne, and they are looking promising as prospects to compete at Nationals this year.

We are lucky to have two Canterbury Rams coaches come in and develop our girls, and Year 7 and 8, basketball players.

Players are starting to shine on the court using the skills provided for them.
