Stars Mentors

Lucretia Treadgold —

I became a Stars mentor because every kid needs someone older to talk to and be there for them. When I started as a Year 9 I had some Year 12 friends and they made me feel welcome and I enjoyed coming to school because they were always helping me out with school and sports and I want other kids to feel like that too.

I decided to become a Stars peer mentor this year as I myself have been mentored in the past. I would love to share the opportunities that I have had with others. I would also like to give back to my school community.

I decided to become a Stars mentor because I really enjoyed working with the Year 9's of last year. I enjoy encouraging and teaching the students about the life skills I wish I had learned at their age. If telling them about these skills helps them cope and figure life out then that is awesome. If they just like the laid back lesson, the games and the chats we have, then that doesn't bother me either.
To anyone thinking about becoming a mentor I highly encourage it. We help the Year 9's feel welcome at school, we are the seniors who make the school united. I challenge other senior students to talk to our junior students, make them feel welcome, and if that seems too hard, maybe just say hello, or wave at them. Make them smile, because we have all been in their shoes.
Are you willing to step up to the challenge?
