Geography Levels 1 & 2

Jan Handley —

Level 1 Geography has allowed students to increase their skill base around both geographic skills and writing skills.

Students started the year with a research paper which saw them visit four different beaches around Christchurch where they collected data on waves, wind and beach angles. This gave them a great base of geographic knowledge to be used for the rest of the year.

This was followed up by a study of Maui dolphins and, in particular, people's views around what should happen. The sustainable environment unit allowed students to understand the nature of our world and how vulnerable it can be.

Level 2 Geography had an amazing time climbing Helicopter Hill. The trip to Craigieburn was for their research assessment. Our students have also learnt a range of topics looking at the issue of pests destroying our native forests and wildlife and learning about deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest.
