Sports Report

Katrina Keenan —

The summer sports season has gone well with some great results from all of our sports teams who are competing in after school events.

There has been good support for our Wednesday tennis programme, the year 7-13 after school volleyball programme which is in its 3rd week and the range of interval and lunchtime offerings open to all students.

We entered a very capable group of year 9/10 boys into the Junior League Nines tournament but were advised that due to the lack of entries from others schools the tournament was unable to go ahead. To all the boys who consistently fronted for meetings and trainings, your efforts have not gone unnoticed and we look forward to getting this group together again during the winter season.

Our mixed touch team competed in the Canterbury Secondary School Championship recently and this Friday at interval, will take on a Police team on the main sports field. The Police team which features a number of former Hornby High School students will be in school to enjoy a game of touch against the students and also give a presentation on pathways in the police force - what an opportunity!

Shortly we will start preparation for winter sport. There is a lot of interest in rugby, rugby league, basketball, badminton and hockey.
