Prefect's Report

Shardey Harris/Lachlan Hickford —

Your prefect team has had a busy term so far.

Athletics Day:

Last Thursday we celebrated Athletics Day, our biggest school-wide event. This year, as a Prefect team we decided to hand out ice blocks to the students at lunchtime, which was very refreshing in the heat! We also made a photo frame that represented all of the House colours, for everyone to take photos with throughout the day. Both were a hit amongst not only the students but the teachers as well. Overall it was such an awesome day!!

Friday sports:

As a Prefect team, this year we have decided to run sports events fortnightly on a Friday. Our first event for the year was a Staff vs Year 13 Volleyball game in Week 3. The Year 13’s came out on top with a win, although we still commend the staff for their effort. In Week 5, we then did multi-sports in the gym, everyone had a really good time participating in and running the game. Our next event will be coming up this Friday at lunch.

Gym Roster:

This term Mr Hilliard had asked if the Prefects could set up a roster to help in organising and assisting games and sports in the gym during interval and lunch. We decided it would actually be a good leadership opportunity for the entire Year 13 cohort. After a few weeks of running this, it has been very successful and beneficial for the students while making lighter work for our teachers as well.

Interacting with Year 7-8 students:

As leaders within our community, we have a responsibility to make sure that we nurture those younger than us. Our goal has been to make sure that they feel comfortable and confident to be a part of our school. So we were excited to be at the Year 7&8 BBQ at the beginning of the term, to meet all of the new students and cook for them and their whānau. We were also pleased to have been able to help run a rotation of Top Team activities during their orientation day, which gave us the opportunity to introduce ourselves and be able to get to know them more personally. Since then, it has been so cool to see these students approaching us during interval and lunch to either say hello or talk about how their year has been going so far.

Eco Warriors:

The Eco-Warriors is a group of students that willingly clean up around the school grounds during their interval and lunch breaks. We thought this would be an amazing group to be a part of, so this year the team jumped on board. It is great to see how much the group is growing and how committed everyone involved is in cleaning up the school. This month, we are also hoping to organise a school-wide clean up on the 15th of March for all of the students to take part in. That way, we are all able to do our bit, by contributing to looking after our environment.

Hello Hornby:

On Saturday, the Hello Hornby - Community, Party in the Park was held at Wycola. The Prefect team volunteered to help with the setup, pack down and overall running of the day. Lachlan and two other performing arts students were also finalists in the Hub Hornby Talent Quest, so it was awesome to be able to support them as well! We were glad to see so many familiar faces down there and feel so privileged to have been a part of this wonderful community event.

It has been such a great start to the year, and we are looking forward to the rest of this term!
