"Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble."

The school auditorium was abuzz with excited voices and strains of Shakespeare as Hornby students participated in the second night of entries in the annual Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ  Otago University Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival. Two groups of students presented their work, including the famous scene from MacBeth in which MacBeth meets the witches on the moors.

Hornby students joined teams from a dozen other Christchurch schools in a competition that has become so large that the competition runs over two evenings. "The standard of performance was very high", Joanne Clarke (HoD Drama) commented. Ms Clarke directed the Year 9 performance, while a group of Year 11 students directed their own performance in the second piece performed by Hornby High School students.

Their performances took away the 'Best use of ensemble' and 'Great comic moment' awards for the evening.

The students' work not only supports their learning in the Arts and Drama, but also supports the development of their confidence, their leadership abilities, and their preparedness to take responsible risks, essential parts of their individual journeys towards creative excellence.

Their work is a fine example of our school values of Commitment, Achievement, Resilience, and Respect.
