End of year examinations are approaching for senior students. Keep ahead of the game by using these helpful tips and hints.

The NZQA end of year examinations begin on Monday, November 6, and finish on December 1, 2023.

Please note that during study leave, teachers will be calling for students to attend some exam tutorials for students who have not yet completed some of their internal standards. It is very important that students attend these sessions.

All students must attend exams in full school uniform, be at school 15 minutes before the exam, and have pens and charged devices if required. Do not forget your exam slip; without it, you will not be allowed into the exam.

Make use of the NCEA site StudyIt; it is great for Science, English and Math as well as helpful tips for studying. For other subjects use your study notes and the range of resources your teacher has given you. You can also visit the NZQA site and look up previous exams as examples.

It is important that students have a plan for their at home study time. Note: If students want to come into school to study in a quiet place, they may do so.

Tips for productive at home study:

Create a daily study schedule.

Have a dedicated study space (away from noise and other distractions).
Take regular short breaks and include exercise in these breaks.
Drink lots of water, remembering that the recommended daily intake of water is 1½ - 2 litres (sugary drinks are not recommended).
Teachers will also give students study tips for their particular subject; it is wise to follow these, and students should also contact their teachers if they are unsure about anything.
Teachers are at school during study time and available to assist.
During the examination period, it is also important to get lots of sleep, at least 8 - 10 hours per night.
Hanging out with friends and staying up late is not recommended.
Turn off social media for the duration of the examinations. This will assist with concentration and focus.
