Kia Ora Hornby Primary Whānau
It was an honour to be involved in the pōwhiri and meeting so many lovely new families to the school, I trust you have all settled in well to our schooling community.
The Kakahapa group and Choir did a great job performing at Hello Hornby, a big thanks to Rovena, Heather, Megan, Alethea and all the parent helpers, you did you and your school proud. Also a big thanks to Nicola Scott for running a new basketball league at school and managing the touch rugby teams.
We welcome back Kate Mclachlan to the school after a year's maternity leave, Kate will continue her role as deputy principal, Kate it is great to have you back 🙂.
Chelsea Bremner has secured a role at the high school. Chelsea we wish you all the best with your teaching and rugby career, you will be a big loss for the end of year staff vs student sports clashes!
Our rebuild is moving towards its completion, and certainly we have a very changed environment, we thank you for your patience throughout this process. The lunch club continues to cater for around 90 children, we have between 3-6 helpers most weeks but are always looking for new helpers, the parents support group are also looking for new members.
We are working with the Council to improve the safety of Waterloo Road, we all have a part to play here by not parking on the yellow lines. Constable Brad was at school last week warning people parking on yellow lines. When he returns, he will be ticketing people who continue to infringe
I encourage you to have a look at your children's online work and make a positive comment on their blogs, this will make their day and shows that you are taking an interest in their work.
We continue to monitor the developing COVID-19 outbreak and take advice from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, good hygiene practices should be followed, and if your children are not well seek medical advice and keep them home and let the school know.
Ngā mihi
