National Youth Leaders Day (NYLD)
Town Hall
NYLD 2022 for our Manukura
Last Thursday Mr Roberts and Mr Taylor took our Manukuras to the Christchurch Town Hall to experience and learn from other leaders in New Zealand. It was a fantastic day where students, Mr Taylor and Mr Roberts learnt so much. Here is what our Manakuas enjoyed about the day.
Vaoiva
My favourite speaker was William Pike. Because he never gave up and he kept on trying even though he failed sometimes. He kept on going even though he kept getting set backs, this shows true leadership. It highlights the need to keep going no matter what.
Sam Johnson talked about making problems smaller and addressing them. For me I want to put a posters up such as ``1plus a day” to help make New Zealand beautiful. This will help me be an inspiring leader because the parks will be clean and people don’t have to see rubbish every time they go for a stroll around the parks.
Yazmin
My favourite speaker was Georgia Lines because everyone at her school bullied her when she was younger, but when they did bully her she never gave up. She really inspired me because when High School Musical came out, Georgia and her friends decided to enter the school talent show although she had never sung in front of anyone. She was resilient and gave it a go. She sung the song from High School Musical at the end of NYLD22
Jack
My favourite speaker was Georgia Latu because I loved her story and I love how she started her business at just 12 years old. It and all of the problems that she went through with Covid and lockdown. I am surprised that she did not give up and that she just kept going and going. I love her messages. One of them was “to believe in yourself and to create healthy habits.” She wrote a book and it was all recyclable.
Lyah
My favourite speaker was William Pike. He never gave up and tried his personal best even if things were hard on him. Losing his leg didn’t stop him from going out of his comfort zone. What I got from that day was to step out of my comfort zone. Being confident when speaking in front of big crowds. To never give up and be resilient.
Speaking in front of people and even if you are young you can make the biggest impact on some people. Picking up rubbish, a great saying from the day was 1 plus a day (meaning pick up one piece of rubbish a day to make a difference).
I have a plan to make a slideshow showing what the impact of a clean environment would be and supporting kids to do the right thing when they see rubbish.
Misty-Rose
My favourite speaker was Georgia Latu because she was doing poi. That was my favourite part. I liked her stories about her work and what she has done. One of her sayings was “Do the mahi,Get the treats”.
She really inspired me because she owns her company and did it on her own through all the barriers she faced. Her company is “Potiki Poi”. Georgia Latu was so cool and pretty. She does Tik Toks for her mahi and she makes pois.
