Marae visit...

Rovena Jackson - March 24, 2023

This week the tamariki from Te Puna o te Reo were lucky enough to visit Ngā Hau e Whā marae to consolidate our learning this term. Ngā Hau e Whā means the four winds. This name is symbolic of being a meeting place for all peoples from everywhere. We spent time in the beautiful wharenui (named Aoraki) looking at all the whakairo (carvings) of rangatira (chiefs). Some of the tamariki did their pepeha next to the rangatira of their waka. We learned about the history of the marae, sung some waiata, and enjoyed some tuākana/tēina time together. He pai rawa atu te kaupapa o te rā! Thursday was Whaea Raewyn’s last day at Te Māhuri Mānuka. Raewyn has worked in our whānau classes for 4 years. We will all miss her very much and wish her the very best of luck with future travels. Aroha atu ki a koe, kaiawhina atāahua!
