Learning Through Play - HPS style

Julie Carey —

We are at the beginning of a journey of 'Learning through Play' so we can transition children from Early Childhood education through their first years at school.

We know that children learn through playing with their peers. They learn social skills such as sharing, compromising and leading. They develop their emotional understandings such as dealing with disappointment, anger, sadness and annoyance.

We give children the opportunity, through our play programme, to develop and work through these skills in a supported way.

One of the most exciting things about learning through play is how the children create amazing games, constructions and activities all through their own efforts and ideas. We call this giving students agency to direct some of their own learning. We do this by providing resources, time and support when needed.

Our children from year zero through to year 3 love our learning through play sessions!
