Be part of the biggest Scottish Festival in New Zealand

From humble beginnings, the Hororata Highland Games has grown to be one of the biggest Scottish Festivals in New Zealand and you can be part of it!

This unique event is best described as a traditional Scottish Highland Games with a Kiwi twist. The competitions are at the heart of the event and the Games are the only event on the South Island that offers all the traditional Scottish competitions.

The Hororata Highland Games were established as the main fundraising focus for the Hororata Community Trust, established to help rebuild and promote the community after the September 2010 earthquake.

Hororata Community Trust encompasses communities of a largely rural district in the heart of Canterbury, many parts of which are remote, spanning 280 square kilometers from Hororata, Glentunnel to Lake Coleridge. The Trust connects these communities to encourage links that develop the growth and wellbeing of our people. Through our major festivals, the Hororata Highland Games and Hororata Glow Festival the Trust is able to enable our rural community to succeed. We do this by supporting smaller community-led initiatives and collaborations, working to develop plans for future facilities to meet growing needs, or promoting the heritage of the area. The Trust is focused on enabling its community to thrive.

When you come to the Hororata Highland Games you become part of our community. We know how to turn on the famous New Zealand country hospitality to make everyone feel welcomed.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!
