Mobile Phones

Steph Elder —

All state schools are required to implement a phone rule that has student phones ‘away for the day’.

Phone Information

Last year, the Government has introduced regulations to put this requirement in place. These can be found at:

Education (School Boards) Amendment Regulations 2023 – Parliamentary Counsel Office

At Howick Intermediate School we have existing phone rules that cater for this.

We strongly recommend students do not bring phones to school with them. As per the ‘Student Phone Agreement’ that is signed as part of the online enrolment process, if a student does bring their phone it will be handed in as soon as they arrive, locked away for the day and given back at 3 pm. If a parent or caregiver needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the office.
