A few non negotiables and safety reminders for parents

Leo Spaans —

A few do's and dont's that support us in regard to keeping your children safe and ensuring clarity.

School Uniform- Just a reminder that Hukanui does enforce school uniform. Our children are required to wear uniform hats, shirts, skorts, shorts or trousers, black socks and plain black shoes. We do not allow sports branded caps, Jibbitz, coloured shoes or non uniform tops. Our uniform policy is not new, so there should be no surprises to families. The PTA do stock second hand items and new uniforms can be accessed through Global Velocity via our school website. All secondhand uniform requirements will need to be directed to the PTA hukanuischoolpta@gmail.com for assistance.

Please ensure all uniform items, PE and swim gear are all clearly named. We receive unnamed items daily and it is frustrating when we cannot return them to their rightful owner. All unnamed and unclaimed items will be passed on to the PTA to sell at the end of each term.

Terms 1 and 4 are compulsory hat terms. Please make sure the students have a clearly named hat of their own. There are no hats for loan from the office. If a student doesn’t have a hat, they cannot play outside during playtime.

New uniforms and house t-shirts are only available online through Global Velocity https://www.globalvelocity.co.nz/hukanui-primary-school/.

They are delivered to school on Tuesdays and Fridays. They will then be passed on to the student to bring home. If you have any uniform queries, please contact them directly on 0800504063 or via email sales.support@globalvelocity.co.nz. Please do not show up unannounced at the warehouse as they may not be able to facilitate your visit.

School arrivals and pick ups- Please be aware that our school gates open for students and whānau at 8.20am each morning. We do not encourage students to be sent to school prior to this time, as there is no supervision and we sit in a high traffic area. Children arriving earlier than this are not safe. We also ask parents not to enter the gates after 8.50am-9am, as this ten minutes allows teachers and students time to organise themselves, reconnect and prepare for the day to come.

In regards to pick ups in the afternoon we open gates at 2.50pm. Students are then released from class at 3pm. We do not allow parents to enter classes prior to the bell ringing. If you do enter classes you will be asked to leave. At 3.10pm the school gates are then locked to support our after school care programme, music tutors and Kelly Sports. Children who are not enrolled in these programmes are not allowed to stay onsite and play. The playgrounds are closed at this time and not supervised.

Parking and road safety- If you choose to drive to Hukanui School then we ask that you strictly adhere to the road rules. This means no double parking, no leaving cars on yellow lines, or the Kiss N Drop, or across drive ways. Cars are not permitted to drive through the orange safety markers and if you are asked by a Hukanui staff member to move your car, please do so. As always we strongly recommend you park at Chartwell if you want to walk into school, or use the Kiss N Drop if your child is confident to walk into the gates independently.

Ezlunch school lunch online orders will commence on Wednesday 19th February. You will need to set up an account for your child via www.ezlunch.co.nz and order online by 9am for delivery Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
