Michael Davidson —

Over the last 2 weeks, we have seen both Team Moana and Team Awa busy working hard in all areas of their learning! We have been connected to our learning in a large variety of ways. We have been working with our writing and have been learning how to research, plan in detail and write reports. It has been amazing to see all the children applying themselves and pushing themselves to learn new skills.

Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Rotations:

Over the last 2 weeks, we have seen both Team Moana and Team Awa busy learning about Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. Check out the photos of Team Awa and Team Moana in the Hall during our Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Rotations. They are designing their Royal Pudding for her majesty and proudly showing off their designs for the judges!

“I liked playing Bingo and learning about the flags in the Commonwealth.” Lydia - Team Awa

“The Pudding Competition was great fun.” Tanaya - Team Awa

“I liked writing sticky notes on the computer with a buddy.” Willow & Ivy Rose - Team Awa

Year 5/6 Trip to Styx Mill

Year 5/6 students were lucky enough to take a trip to the Styx Mill Reserve on Hussey Road. This was in collaboration with Te Tuna Taone and Enviro Schools. Thanks to a fantastic parent helper response we were able to attend, where we looked at the health of the area for the tuna (long fin eel), the habitat, water clarity and temperature, water flow and even managed to see some eels. We will be following up our day with some actions, watch this space. Thanks must go to Mrs Carey for organising and coordinating this outing, the Moana teachers for running the workshops, Jenny Bond and Nicky Clarke as well as all the fantastic parent helpers. A great day had by all.

Basketball with The Canterbury Rams:

Some of our students have been lucky enough to get some time to do basketball training with some of the Rams professional players. They have been learning new skills and working on their resilience. Here is what some of the children have to say about their learning:

“I really enjoy seeing my favourite Rams in person.” Esca - Team Awa

“I like to learn new moves. I have always wanted to learn how to play basketball.” Lydia - Team Awa

“I love shooting the ball in the hoop. I have learnt how to hold the ball as a ‘W’.” Cameron - Team Awa

“I have enjoyed training with a buddy.” James - Team Awa

Professional Learning Day for Staff:

Many thanks to the parents for supporting our Professional Learning Day last Friday. We started our day listening to a very uplifting speaker at Cobham Intermediate School. This was followed by workshops centred around well-being. After a delicious lunch back at Isleworth, provided by our wonderful Board of Trustees, we continued our well-being theme working alongside colleagues for the afternoon. Another successful learning day had by all.

Volume and Capacity

Team Moana and Team Awa are moving onto a new area of learning in maths - Volume and Capacity. This strand requires students to measure a range of different boxes and objects and explain the volume of the measured objects.

To teach this strand successfully, we need clean boxes of all shapes and sizes please. Anything would be appreciated - cereal cartons, Hello Fresh or My Food Bag boxes, muesli bar boxes, etc. If you have more than one box of the same size that would be great as well. If you could send them along to school that would be appreciated.

Reminders:

Sweatshirts - As the weather is getting colder and we have to have the doors open for ventilation students will need to wear a school sweatshirt (available from the Office for a fee) Please note that Team Moana has a large number of these in their lost property. Please make sure the sweatshirt is named so we can ensure it goes back to the right student.

Matariki Non-uniform Day! - Come dressed to school in your warmest best! Onesies, oodies, your favourite PJ’s - the choice is yours! Thursday 23 June - Please bring a gold coin donation.

Matariki Public Holiday - Reminder, school is closed on Friday 24th of June for the nationwide public holiday for Matariki. Enjoy the long weekend!

Stationery - Please check with your child/ren about whether they need a top up of stationery at school. We've been noticing a number of students recently saying that they cannot find their Black Pens or Writing Pencils.
