HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES & CAMPS

Here at the Christchurch YMCA we work hard to provide great school holiday programmes that will ensure that your children stay entertained throughout their holidays. We offer a range of activities from Arts & Crafts, to Sports & Outdoor Activities. Our programmes are designed to cater for different ages, genders and cultural backgrounds.

All our programmes are run by talented and responsible staff who are trained to provide a safe and stimulating environment. Ensuring your child is safe and having a great time is at the top of our priority list. The programmes and camps we are running in July are:

DAY PROGRAMMES

Our daily school holiday programmes operate Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and offer your child the chance to experience independence, self reliance, and an opportunity to make great friends. You can choose to register for individual days or for the whole week.

5–7s
based at Middleton Grange School in Riccarton

8–9s
based at the City YMCA

10–12s
based at the YMCA Bishopdale

5–10s
based at the City YMCA
A great option for younger siblings who want to stay together.

Activities in July: Mega Air, Clip 'n Climb, Baking Day, Crafts with The Make Company, Court Theatre, St John Training Day, Mid Winter Christmas Party, and lots of onsite fun!

Costs: Daily registration $50 per day, full week registration $250

Children can either be dropped off directly at their specific age group location (as above), or at the City YMCA, where transport will be arranged to take them to and bring them back from their programme.

WEEK LONG PROGRAMMES

Our specialised weekly school holiday programmes operate Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and offer your child the chance to experience independence, self reliance, and an opportunity to make great friends!

Each of these week-long programmes have a focus for those individuals who would like to hone and develop their skills, while having a great time! Our week-long programmes can only be booked in for the full week.

Arts 9-15 years based at City YMCA
We run Performing Arts in week one - where participants will acquire new skills in the realm of drama & music and will also attend a performance at the Court Theatre. Week two is Creative Arts where participants are tasked with a range of creative art pieces and work through the design and creation process.

Activ8 9-12 years based at the City YMCA
These programmes are aimed at those who are ready to be ACTIVE! Outdoor Adventure is at the heart of this programme in which participants will be introduced to a variety of new activities & challenges around Christchurch. At the end of the week, the group will participate in a tramp supervised by our trained supervisors and leaders.

Frontrunners 13-15 years based at the City YMCA
This young leadership programme is socially driven and runs less like a holiday programme and more like a stepping stone into leadership. Daily activities will be used to build leadership and confidence, and there will be an opportunity to lead other younger aged group programmes. Frontrunners run in week one.

Tech Week 13-15 years based at the City YMCA
Participants in this programme will engage in a variety of new cutting edge technology using innovative tools over the course of the week. Workshops in design and wood cutting using a computer numerical control CNC cutter, 3D printing, robotics and virtual reality are some of the things that we offer during this fun technology based week.

SKI CAMPS

Every winter the Christchurch YMCA runs two 5-day residential ski camps for 9-15 year olds. These camps are a great way to gain skills and confidence in skiing and snowboarding. We have highly qualified and talented instructors who lead ski camp and work alongside the equally skilled staff on Porters Ski Field.

Accommodation is at the YMCA Arthur’s Pass Outdoor Education Centre and the programme caters to all skills and abilities. The trip includes transportation, accommodation, food, lift passes, & 2 compulsory lessons on day 1 & 2. We also have an amazing partnership with the amazing crew at McEwings Ski and Snowboard Hire who give any participants of our ski camps an amazing deal on gear hire.

MEET THE TEAM

LIV, HAVEN & PHOEBE

There have been a few staff changes within our Youth Services team, with some staff leaving or taking up new opportunities at the Y.

Liv is our new Children's Services Coordinator tasked with the organisation and running of all things holiday programmes, which is all things fun! She manages all of the bookings, oversees all staff and organises the Ski Camps. Liv has lots of experience, energy, and passion for young people.

Haven started with us in December, in her new role as Youth Development Coordinator. This means that Haven is now responsible for all volunteer recruitment & leadership development opportunities at the Y!

Phoebe is our funny and energetic Programme Support person. You'll see Phoebe roaming around, helping with bookings, checking in with staff, leaders and children and parents, and lending a hand where ever it’s needed!
