Property Update

Kara Mason —

There are a number of projects around the kura at the moment. Some of these are Ministry funded and others are funded by the school. Here is an update.

Today our brand new soccer goals arrived - installed by the team from Mayfield Sports.  The goals are full-sized international goals and they look amazing...and pretty daunting when you stand inside them!

The kids had a ball today trying them out and it was great to see football being played again.  And to see the older students having to rise to the challenge of defending such a formidable goal area.  The investment in excellent gear for our school is part of the Boards strategic goal setting for our school so I thank the board for committing these funds to this spend.

Our Seniors finished off the winter ball skills programme that they have been involved in this term by having a round of games in each code.  A great way for all the students to apply the skills they have developed over the term.

Next week we are finally seeing the trees along the fence-line by our netball courts come down.  This will start on Monday, and through most of the week.  For your own safety we ask you to stay off the school grounds during that time.

The 'Friends of James Cook School' will be looking at selling wood and organising some raffles.  This will not happen for a few months so watch this space.

As I have said previously, this will allow a lot more light into the school and will also help with keeping our pool warmer in the summer months.

We have also nearly completed a roofing, clear-lite and spouting job throughout the school.  The final stage of this will happen during the holidays which is the removal of skylights and the installation of better lighting in the admin area.

This means that we will shortly be able to start some modernisation projects inside the classrooms.
