Ko wai tātou? Who are we?

Kara Mason —

As mentioned last term, you may have seen in the foyer we are starting a display to celebrate and acknowledge who we are.

Our map of 'Ngā Iwi o Aotearoa' has finally arrived, held up due to Cyclone Gabrielle.  We invite you to come in at any time on any day with your child/ren and position your photo.

You will see on the wall some phrases printed on labels to help get you talking about your tūrangawaewae (identity) which is our intention for this display.  There are some blank labels if you have a 'connection'.

Whaea Delanie, Miss Morris and I enjoyed laying it out on my office floor and talking about all our 'connections'.  We hope that you will do the same.

For many of you, Marton is where your were born and bred.  And for some of us, like myself, we acknowledge our connection to other iwi.

This makes for a great conversation between you and your tamariki or tamaiti, and a reminder to all of us of our diversity here at James Cook School.
