Oranga Tonutanga
Melanie Morris, our DP has been working on developing a programme to target engagement and attendance. Here is some background to the programme that she has developed.
Oranga Tonutanga | Lifelong Wellness, is a well researched initiative to engage students in learning. It is intended to help students:
- connect to the kura, emotionally, intellectually, physically
- to feel like the kura is an extension of their home, and wider world
- to be focused, to be ready to learn, to love to learn
- to feel nurtured
- to celebrate learning with others
- to accept and negotiate challenges with confidence
- to know and trust that they can get what they need from us (Kura/Education system)
- to build and develop resiliency through having opportunities and challenges
The initiative has three aspects, Akoranga Kori | Physical Activities, Te Honongatanga | Deeper connections and Tautāwhai Huihui | Mentoring. The Ministry of Education has funded this initiative and we are looking to start this exciting programme during term 2.
