Week 10

Dear Parents

As Term 1 draws to a close, I will highlight some of the exciting learning and events we have had.

Trips have taken us to the Auckland War Memorial Museum and the Howick Historical Village where students have learnt about the histories of the peoples of New Zealand. Wonderful and inspiring stories of immigration by our whānau have been told in classes, opening our eyes to the experiences of our ancestors and friends. Tīwai climbed to new heights at Tree Adventures in Woodhill and held a Mindfall day. These days were focused on team building and leadership training in preparation for the announcement of the House Captains and House Leaders of our school. The Children’s Bible Mission has taken several Daily Discipleship lessons for students in Year 5.

Much has happened in the sporting arena with teams competing in t-ball, cricket and touch rugby. The Senior (Years 3-8) Athletics' Day will be at Lovelock Park where students will be able to try their hand at long jump, javelin, shotput, discus, and middle distance and sprint events. This will be the first major House competition of the year and promises to be a fun day. Please pray for good weather.

The Parents' Association organised a Family Fun BBQ where we had a chance to meet new families and enjoy community. We have had two mufti days to raise money for the Ika camp and our TEAR Fund sponsor child, Benimana.

Parents and students were given the opportunity to meet their teacher and check out their classroom in the week leading up to the start of the school year. Talanoa Fono and Kōrero Whānau Hui have been held for our Pasifika and Māori whānau. The first parent meeting of the year took the form of a cyber safety and classroom routines and expectations meeting. Parent/Teacher meetings were a valuable time to discuss student progress.

In the area of extra-mural endeavours various students have had chess coaching, drama lessons and itinerant music lessons.

The Manu team delighted us all with a wonderful Easter show filled with song dance and the story that changed history as God came to earth as a man to show us the Way and pay the price for our sins. Because He is risen, we can face tomorrow with hope and purpose!

Yours in partnership
