PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Admin Staff —

Dear JCS Whānau

We are faced with yet another busy and exciting term of learning and community. I will briefly share some of what is coming up.

Space is the topic of our inquires in the primary school this term. The disappointment in finding that the Stardome was closed was short lived as they are now coming into schools to run their programmes. Our students have been transported into space as they have learnt about the moon, planets, stars and the exploration of them.

Manu will be learning all about Whales and their importance in the ocean through an organisation called Save the Whales. Ten students from Wai will be going to the theatre to see the musical Cats. We will be celebrating Matariki with gratitude in our hearts as we see our great Atua’s provision in the seasons and crops He provides for our sustenance.

On the sports field a lot has been planned with soccer and netball zone days and cross-country through Auckland Christian Schools. Tīwai are having ice-skating lessons for the first time and there are a number of competitions organised through the Whau Sports cluster. Ten students from Wai are participating in table tennis lessons once a week and a team is going to represent JCS at a basketball competition. Manu are having a Funky Monkey Play Day. Ika will be competing in a Kī-o-Rahi day.

In the service and missional arena, the Year 5 students have participated in a missions course through Asian Outreach. Mufti Day this term will be in aid of raising money for this organisation as we support children in Cambodia to get much needed winter clothes. We will be collecting clothes, toiletries and non perishables for “I Love Avondale” to help those in need in our community.

Our dynamic Parents Association is starting the term off with a Movie Night, more information to follow soon but keep the 12th of May open! We are also planning a Quiz Night.

We will be having a Talanoa Fono for our Pacifica parents. This evening will involve corporate worship, a look at JCS’s plan around the Pacifica Education Action Plan, a report back on the PKA homework and holiday programme and a time of food and fellowship. Samoan Language week will be celebrated in week 6.

The term will end with an online progress report available to parents discussing your child’s goals, achievement and the next steps in their learning journey.

Yours in His service

Sandra Bosman
