Mālō e lelei JCS Whānau

This week is Uike Kātoanga'i 'o e lea faka-Tonga, Tongan Language week. The theme for the week Ke Tu'uloa 'a e lea faka-Tönga′ 'i Aotearoa has a positive and progressive connotation. To support the overarching Language Weeks theme of Sustainability, the word TU'ULOA in the theme this year means to continuously grow, nurture, and sustain a valued idea, practice, event, or memory in an enduring way. At JCS we are going to celebrate with a special assembly on Friday. Our generous Tongan fāmili and Kāinga are providing lunch on this day. You are all welcome to attend the assembly and or the lunch. It will be in the school hall.

Friday was a day of joy, the first Grandparents Day in two years. What a delight it was to see so many of our grandparents come and enjoy some time with their grandchildren at school. The morning started off with time spent in the classrooms doing activities together where young and old shared some learning. This was followed by a scrumptious morning tea of a wide variety of tasty treats. I am sure the grandparents felt very spoiled. Space was at a premium in the hall as we struggled to fit everyone in. Students entertained us all with song, dance, acrobatics and musical instruments. The show was kept running smoothly by our talented Asher and Shekinah.

It was such fun to see so many getting into the spirit of the Book Fair by dressing up into storybook characters. We had the Queen of Hearts, Where’s Harry, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and so many more interesting and colourful characters. Some students and grandparents had even coordinated their outfits.

I would like to say a big thank you to all those who came and enjoyed the day with us. Thank you too, to the grandparents who donated books to class libraries and to all the parents who so generously provided tasty morsels for our grandies to enjoy for morning tea.

It is a privilege to be part of such a giving community where so much aroha is shared far and wide.

Yours in His service
