Principal's Message

Admin Staff —

Dear JCS Whānau

Welcome to Term 3. We are praying for much better health and attendance this Term for staff and students as we nudge towards spring. There are some exciting learning opportunities planned.

It was a delight to welcome new whānau at our mihi whakatau on Monday. Thank you to Mrs Glasgow who so ably spoke on behalf of the manuhiri.

Next week we will be celebrating Cook Island Language week. More will be discussed at this week’s Friday whole school assembly. The other language weeks celebrated this Term will be te Reo Māori, Chinese, Tuvaluan and Tongan. There will be a drama performance which incorporates music and dance to teach about resilience.

Manu Learning Area will be celebrating 100 days at school by dressing up as 100-year-olds.

Manu and Wai Learning Areas are going to be visiting the Arataki Visitor’s Centre in the Waitākere ranges as part of their learning all about how plants grow.

The Tīwai learning area is learning about specific aspects of the human body this Term and they will be going on a Stream Trip to consolidate the learning from last term on water. Towards the end of the term, a group of talented students will be going to Sports Camp in Matamata and the rest of the team will be doing a work of workshops employing and developing STEAM skills. Tīwai will also be participating in rock climbing at Clip ‘n Climb as part of their sports programme. Teams will be representing JCS at the ACS cricket and cross-country zone days.

ICAS exams will be written throughout the term covering a number of subjects. Parent/Teacher interviews will be set up on eTap to be held, in person, at JCS on Monday. More information about how to sign up for a time with your child’s teacher is included in this newsletter.

This Term we will be having lunch orders weekly on Thursdays. You can avail yourself of this service and have the day off from making lunch. Whero house enjoyed some delicious pizza as the winning house for Term 2. The PA will be planning some community building and fundraising events this term on Thursday 28 July. It is not too late to join this group of enthusiastic people who serve our community. We will be having one more Open Day this year on 14 September. This is a great opportunity for prospective parents to come and hear students showcase their learning. There will be an information morning tea meeting for all the new families due to start in Term 4.

I would like to remind all parents who are wanting to stand for the JCS Board of Trustees, the nominations and profiles need to be uploaded by Wednesday 3 August.

The Term will end with a cold coin, mufti day in support of our TEAR fund sponsor child, Benimana from Rwanda.

Yours in His service

Sandra Bosman
