PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Week 1, Term 2, 2025
Dear JCS Whānau,
It is always such a joy to welcome back all our friendly, enthusiastic tamariki at the start of each term.
Our kapa haka group did us proud once again at our mihi whakatau, welcoming 7 new families and 9 new students into our JCS community. This term offers some exciting learning as we explore the animal kingdom in Years 1-6 and government and democracy, simple circuits - conductors and insulators- and substances and mixtures in Years 7 and 8. We will explore the concept of God being the Creator and how we are required to be good stewards of His world. The wellbeing focus of being spiritually healthy, and the habits which we need to develop to ensure we achieve this, will be practised. Making, inventing and creating will continue in the Makerspace complementing the inquiry learning.
Manu and Ika will be having trips to the Zoo to see God’s handiwork first-hand. Auckland Christian Schools' Football zone day will see teams from Ika and Tīwai representing JCS. There will be a basketball competition for Year 3 and 4 students and a Whau Winter Sports day for Year 5 and 6 students. We will be celebrating Samoan Language week. Come and enjoy a movie night organised by the Parents' Association, more details to come.
An information evening for potential Year 7 and 8 students will be held where information around the learning programme will be shared. If your child is in Year 6, or you have friends who are looking for a Christ-centred intermediate option, this will be a good opportunity to come and hear what happens in intermediate at JCS.
On the last day of the term, a Mufti Day with a gold coin donation for our sponsor child, Benimana Raphael from Rwanda, will be held.
Progress Reports will be made available at the end of the term. The teachers will be attending the biannual New Zealand Association of Christian Schools' Conference. This opportunity affords our teachers, not only the chance to network across the wider network of Christian educators around the motu, but also to engage in professional learning that ensures our classes and schools are places of flourishing as we endeavour to be faithful to the gospel.
Yours in His service
Sandra Bosman
