Who knew Year 8 camp would be so much fun? From our SUV’s getting stuck in deep mud to the night games of spotlight, it was a great experience for all of us. Some of the highlights of the trip were the hockey and football games, a tour around a historical Chinese village in Arrowtown, four-wheel driving, a visit to a wine cave and gold panning.

Is it woodwork? Is it metalwork? What is this subject all about?

Back in the day, my history teacher told me that when you see blossom on trees, then it’s time for senior students to start studying for final exams. This is advice I pass on to McGlashan boys now.  

The age of stadium rock came alive once more in August, as McGlashan launched our production of the hit Broadway show, Rock Of Ages.

The JohnMcGlashan junior hockey side competed alongside the best fourteen sides in the country.

The Inter-House Singing competition is an event that you can simply not miss! 

Basketball boys enjoyed themselves playing and watching some great quality basketball over 4 days from 24 boys teams and 16 girls teams from around the South Island

Our team has done us proud in our inaugural year in this competition. Combining humour with facts and props in a slick presentation proved a winning combination.

John McGlashan was placed a very competitive third and fifth.

The 1st XI hockey side competed in the Rankin Cup/India Shield tournament in Hamilton. This tournament was contested by the top 32 teams in New Zealand out of approximately 130 schools that compete at tournament level.

The McGlashan Football 1st XI completed a hat trick of tournament week medal-winning performances by securing a bronze at this year’s Jim Wishart Cup competition in Christchurch.

This year Christ's College and St Andrew's College hosted a four team invitational tournament aimed at player development.

On Tuesday 29th August, the annual Balmacwen Intermediate Exchange took place under clear blue skies. The sports on offer this year were chess, Year 7 and Year 8 Miniball, hockey, rugby and football. The occasion was an eventful one.

There is no doubt that reading is pivotal to good educational outcomes and the continuation of our Peer Reading programme has value for both tutors and tutees.

Most could attest that the weekly Theatresports sessions are heard far before they are seen. For those of you who don’t know, Theatresports is improvised drama. 

Alex Seaton, Ali Dohan and Jacob Cushen were amongst the top money raisers for Go McGlashan Read this year.

The 23rd of September is a date to mark in your diary this year, and not because of the general election. It is far more exciting. It is John McGlashan Fete day!

After storming London's West End and New York's Broadway, Road Dahl's 'Matilda The Musical', with original songs by Tim Minchin, has finally come to New Zealand shores. A group from John McGlashan College made the trip to Auckland, to see if the show lived up to all the hype. 

On Wednesday the 6th of September, the Excel Dance, Drama and Music group performed for the boys in the Davies Sports Centre.

On Tuesday 29 August the Board of Proprietors held their 100th meeting. 

It is a real pleasure as the year progresses towards Spring to be able to update the school community as to some of the projects the Board of Proprietors have been involved in this year.
