Keys to Success

Gaining an Excellence endorsement for NCEA is challenging enough.  This group of scholars, however, has raised the bar by achieving more than double the number of excellence credits required. 

Wearing that distinctive red & blue striped tie is becoming a statement of attitude and intent as more and more boys set themselves academic challenges and work hard to achieve them.

The 2017 prefects were recognised at a recent parent function to celebrate leadership and scholarship in the senior school.  Our top scholars from 2016 were also in attendance where they received the top academic status as "100 Club" or "200 Club" members.

Students from around NZ who gained 40+ points in last years IB Diploma examinations were recently invited to Government House in Auckland to receive Top Scholar's awards from the Governor General.

Having already been awarded a Scholar's Tie at Level 1, or even made it into the illustrious "100 Club", this group of top scholars has continued to perform at the very highest academic level during their Year 12 courses.

Rail trail - My brother and I went on the Central Otago Rail Trail last week. I travelled from Clyde to Middlemarch for three days. 

Fourteen boys and girls from Columba College and John McGlashan College gathered for their first Year 12 Agribusiness class at the beginning of February to launch the long-awaited Centre of Excellence (School) for Agricultural Science and Business.

An invitational side from John McGlashan College took part in the inaugural Under-17 Cricket Carnival in Queenstown in January and what an event this turned out to be.

The Waihi Summer Sports Exchange is a highlight for many Year Seven and Eight boys.

As part of our new eLearning initiatives across the college, each Year 9 class had an 'eReady @JMC' workshop with Mrs Jo Mullenger and a group of Year 10 mentors.

On Wednesday 15th February our top McGlashan tennis team played in the Regional Secondary Schools’ Tennis Tournament. 

2017 begins a new format for junior swimming in New Zealand.

Unprecedented academic success during Otago University's Health Science Year has seen six John McGlashan College old boys gain entrance to 2nd Year Medicine in 2017!

Last year ended and this year has started with some great sporting achievements for our McGlashan boys.

Following in the footsteps of John McGlashan College old boy Clarke Johnstone, our College may have two new future Olympic Equestrians in its midst. Noah (Year 9) and Quinn Coutts (Year 7) attended the NZ National Show Jumping and Show Hunter Championships in Christchurch recently, and they achieved great success.

Do you want to challenge yourself and practise your test taking techniques at the same time? The ICAS Exams are an extension opportunity for students in Years 7-13.
