2016 Kicks Off

John McGlashan College recently celebrated the academic success of over 50 students with the awarding of Scholars Ties.

Below are a list of our House Leaders for this year.

Another successful year for SHRIMP packs.

In late November of last year, three Year 12 students from John McGlashan College (Christian Tucker, Seamus Leahy and myself) set off on a coast to coast push-bike journey of the South Island.

Another year of a very successful German exchange! 

There was not much time to get organised for the Otago Regional South Island Schools Qualifying tournament, with our teams needing to be finalised before the end of the second week of school term.

If anyone was to come up to me and ask me whether or not they should go on a foreign exchange I would definitely say yes.

During the summer holidays, I went on a two-night tramp into Skippers Canyon, near Queenstown, for my Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze expedition.

In 2012/2013 ‘Cure Kids’ funded a pre-clinical study on Battens disease undertaken at Otago University, this has proven to be a curative for a form of the disease. 

On the 17th of February, nine boys travelled up to Cromwell to compete in the Otago Triathlon, with the hopes of reaching the South Island finals.

It has been a very successful summer for many John McGlashan cricketers with 21 players playing for their district and 4 boys going on to represent Otago.  

Planning for the Vietnam trip is amping up, as is the group’s anticipation for the adventure. Our focus this term has been organising our passports, visa applications, and immunisations to prepare.

 As the year begins to settle into a rhythm, the college’s programme of sustained silent reading is once again up and running.

On February 12th both the Year 13 boys and the young Year 7 students followed the annual tradition of meeting each other, while eating sausages and patties and playing sporting activities on the field. 

John McGlashan College would like to publicly thank the Lion Foundation and Otago Community Trust for their generous support with the purchase of two brand new racing shells to help our rowers compete in 2016.

ICAS exams are an extension opportunity for students in Y7-10. 

On the Tuesday 9th of February John McGlashan hosted its annual athletic prelims. 

JMC Students continue to shine in the sporting arena. 

OTAGO REPRESENTATIVE BASKETBALL TRIALS - SECOND TRIAL Date: Sunday 21st February.

We have a range of opportunities available to support students to achieve academic success.

The College's four houses, Balmacewen, Burns, Gilray and Ross, conduct preliminary trials in the build up to Athletics Day. 

Kate Lucas and Jennifer Macleod cooked up a pancake storm for staff last week on Shrove Tuesday. The day marks the end of Epiphany and the beginning of Lent. Yes, Easter is coming early this year.

After dinner, the Friday of Waitangi weekend, Rev. Kelk and the year 9 boarders spent some time together over dessert, talking about the special character of the College and where he fitted in particular.

MAS Entertainment is searching for the 2016 intake of DJ apprentices. 

For people to come along with their neighbours, family and friends.

The PFA AGM date  is scheduled for Monday 14th March 2016.

Our team will support potential caregivers to understand and manage the challenges and be there with them, to celebrate the successes!
