James, Thomas and Ben head out into the rain on Saturday by Jacob Willsman

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award

Seven seniors and two teachers piled into the school van. The weather was full of doubt but we were keen for an adventure.

When we got up on Saturday, it had rained all night and was still raining. Let's just say we had an interesting sleep. The conditions were not suitable for our original plan, so we got the maps out and came up with a good route. Every step left a wet, sodden footprint in the ground but we were all loving it. We made good time on our route beside the North Lake. Having good gear meant that I was dry and think everyone else was.

After the walk we were drenched but most of us were still in good spirits. We dried off and had some down time back at the campsite. Some people went fishing with no luck. Other people had a bit more luck lighting a fire.

It had stopped raining on Sunday, so the walk  was a breeze. We cut the expected time in half and we were soon at the vans by the bottom of the South Lake.

All the boys that were on the trip would like to say thank you to Mr Brown and Dr Macleod.
