West Coast Careers Expo

Madeline Campbell —

All John Paul II High School students had the opportunity to attend the West Coast Careers Expo at Tai Poutini Polytech throughout the day on Wednesday this week.

Thank you to Jasmine Fitzgerald, our wonderful new Careers, Trades and Gateway Coordinator who planned and set this up for the students.

I recognise the backs of two of our Year 11 Trades Academy students in this photo, Levi Calder and Nathan Milligan, getting stuck into some of what the day had to offer. Levi is in the Year 1 Building and Construction Trades Academy course this year, and Nathan is in the Year 1 mechanical Engineering course. Both students are thriving in these Level 2 NCEA achievement standards courses, their Tai Poutini Polytech tutors are wonderfully supportive and encouraging.

A wide variety of training providers were at the event as well as some of the West Coast's larger employers. It was wonderful to see the pathways available to our West Coast rangatahi.

If your student is interested in joining a Vocational Programme next year, we need your permission before we can start the Application process.  A permission slip is available from Leah in the Office or have a chat with Jasmine (Careers).
