Flora Beynon - West Coast Secondary Schools' Senior Netball Tournament

Paula Smith —

A team of JPII Senior Girls Competed at the WCSS Senior Netball Tournament on Tuesday.

It was great to see six of the seven West Coast Secondary  schools competing for the Flora Beynon trophy, it is always a very competitive tournament, with all teams fighting hard for the title.  A minutes silence was held before the 2pm final out of respect and acknowledgement of Flora Beynon who sadly passed away recently.

JPII took on Buller first up which was a tough game, they came out firing and JPII were a bit slow to adjust to their physical style and the brand new combinations on court.  Unfortunately Buller were well on top by half time and the final score was 28-17 to them. The second game against SWAS was the opposite with the JPII girls being too dominant throughout the court and eventually taking the game 47-10.  The final game was the cross-over pool playoffs, which saw JPII take on Grey High for 3rd v 4th. This game was everything it was expected to be with both teams goal for goal most of the 1st 1/2 being 14 all at half time.  A few JPII injuries land player changes the game finished with Grey High winning 26-21.

There were tight playoff games all round and it made for some thrilling netball. Congratulations to Buller High for taking the title for first time since 2014 which is fantastic to see netball improving across the board.

Thank you to Sammi Fahey who accompanied us as referee for the day.

Attached are the results and final placings.
