From the Principal
Welcome to Angela Sloane, new interim Principal, John Paul II High School
Kia ora
My name is Mrs Angela Sloane and I have been appointed Principal of John Paul II High School in the interim until a permanent appointment is made.
I have had a long association with John Paul II having taught here as HOD Commerce, DRS, Assistant Principal, and Principal between 1990-2001. Since then, this school has always been in my heart.
I have been made to feel very welcome by the BOT and staff on Monday at our Staff Only day, and by the students at a mihi whakatau on Tuesday morning. It was by far the most amazing welcome I have received – well done to the students showing your great pride and mana in the school. It is so great to see the wonderful Marist and Mercy traditions being upheld. The school also welcomed two new staff members at the mihi whakatau, Dr Nichola Petty, who joins us this term as teacher of Science and Physics, and Mrs Sue Johnson who is our new permanent Librarian.
I encourage you all to please introduce yourself to me, if you see me around the place, whether it be at school, at church, on the sports field, or in town. I would really like to make these connections with our school community. If you would like a more formal meeting with me, please phone Paula Smith (PA) on 768 4166 to make an appointment, it will be great to see you.
I believe the school formal ball was a great success and I have seen some wonderful photos of the students enjoying themselves and looking very smart. It is certainly a highlight of the secondary school years and it was fantastic to hear it was a very well run event.
Please keep your eye on the events calendar as this term is getting very full. A reminder that the Year 11-13 three-way conversations with parents/students/teachers will be held on Monday 2nd August, between 4pm-6.30pm, following on from the reports sent home a few weeks ago.
Nga mihi nui
Angela Sloane
