Term 3 was an opportunity for all our pupils to make progress across the department through their various study topics. In year 9 pupils explored the beginnings of the Church in Aotearoa, this was a chance for them to develop some of the Maori terminology which complemented their learning of the school haka. Pupils looked at how the Catholic Faith came to NZ and at the impact it made up until today. In Year 10 pupils delved into the Middle Ages, developing their own newspapers with articles spanning across the many hundreds of years! This was an opportunity to get up close with medieval figures from past centuries through multimedia lessons where videos brought the lesson to life.
In Year 11 pupils focused on the Reformation and especially the sources of conflict and the Catholic response. Pupils’ insight into the key figures of the historical period were lucid and helped show how they are learning. In Year 12 pupils continued their exploration of the themes of Justice and Peace, this helped them weigh up in their own mind, the values of Catholic Social Teaching. In year 13 pupils engaged with the transition into the modern era brought about by Vatican II, all the essays pupils have been researching, have a focus at looking at the Catholic Church’s relationship with the modern world. Well done to everyone who contributed with hard work and resilience in this term.
