From coach Derek!

With the first game of the day at 4:45 pm the John Paul Deacons were matched up with the Grey High Lakers. The game was a very tough game for the John Paul Deacons, especially because they had picked up two new players for the team and only had one sub the whole game. The Deacons fought hard throughout the whole game. The Deacons had been down the whole game. until the 4th quarter. In the last couple of minutes of the game, the Deacons started putting the pressure on the opposition. This caused the Lakers to make a lot of mistakes and the Deacons ended up getting some easy layups from the mistakes the Grey High Lakers had made. In the last 20 seconds of the game, the score was 36-39 to the Lakers and the John Paul Deacons had the chance to tie the game by making a three-pointer. Clem Swinburn ended up having the ball in his hands in the last few seconds of the game and sank a 3 pointer to tie the game from a hard-fought game from the Deacons.

On Wednesday night it was the start of round two for the girls' B grade competition, which means that all the girls' basketball teams would play each team again. The first game of round 3 was kicked off by John Paul Saints playing the John Paul Halos. The game started off very close with Jessica getting the first points of the game. At the end of the first quarter, it was not a very high scoring game with the score being 15-7 to the John Paul Saints. At the start of the second quarter, John Paul Saints picked up the tempo of the game and started running a press on the Halos. When the Saints ran the press it caused the Halos to start making more mistakes and being under pressure more and from the mistakes, the Halos made the Saints would execute on the mistakes they had made. The Saints ended up running a press on the Halos for the rest of the game and ended up keeping the Halos scoreless. The final score ended up being 77-7. The Saints are still to have lost a game in the B grade competition and now have a 4-0 record.

In the last game of the day, we had the John Paul Jr team playing the Grey High Bros. This game was another nail-biting game that could have had any team take it out. But from a very impressive game from Reese Dugan who came of the bench, the John Paul Jr team ended up fighting the whole game. Reese Dugan ended up scoring 27 points off the bench and ended up shooting 6/9 from the 3pt line the whole game. The John Paul Jr A team ended up winning the game with a very close score of 60-58.
