All Souls Day

Daniel Cote Davis —

On Monday 2nd November, all our pupils participated in a special liturgy to mark All Souls.

The liturgy was an opportunity for our young people to pray for their dead loved ones and for all the faithful departed. As the Bible teaches, “It is, therefore, a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins” (2 Maccabees).

St John Paul II also adds; “Before we enter into God's Kingdom every trace of sin within us must be eliminated, every imperfection in our soul must be corrected. This is exactly what takes place in Purgatory. Those who live in this state of purification after death are not separated from God but are immersed in the love of Christ. We can therefore offer up prayers and good works on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Purgatory.”

Pupils had the opportunity to light a devotional candle and bring it to the foot of the Cross. With reverence, the liturgy was a solemn event.
