Bluelight Bootcamp

Celia Costelloe —

It’s that time of the year again... JP II in association with the Greymouth Police and Bluelight will be running our annual bootcamp for Yr 12 and 13 students.

This will be the 9th year we have run this lifechanging programme.

The objectives of this bootcamp are:

  • To expose students to a range of fitness activities and skills.

  • to improve overall fitness and well-being (healthy body, healthy mind).

  • To expose students to nutrition information so they can make informed lifestyle choices.

  • To improve the relationship between young people, their families, the Community and the Police.

  • To introduce young people to support systems that will help them develop positive personal, teamwork and social skills.

  • To expose students to situations that require goal setting, self-discipline and perseverance.

  • To improve students’ confidence in themselves and their bodies.

This is a 7 week after-school programme that includes:

  • 6 fitness training sessions (3:30 – 5 pm)

  • 1 Nutrition class (Parents invited and encouraged to attend) - this was affected by COVID last year, so hopefully we will be able to run it this year.

  • 1 social event

  • Police fitness test (PCT) Tuesday 12th July, the first week of the school holidays

We are hoping to begin the programme on Tuesday 24th May. Students can sign up for the course with Ms Costelloe.
