Ko te Matua!

Hope for us Catholics means placing our trust in Christ’s promises and relying not on our own strength, but on the help of the grace of the Holy Spirit. This is such an important insight from the Catechism as to how Hope works. We have to believe in Christ as the means by which we will be “saved” in our daily lives, from anything that would take us away from a life of friendship with God. In this way Christ can be our key, as holding on to him he guides us through the doors that God leads us towards.

As it says in the school Haka;

Ko te Matua! The Father (The very heart of us)

Poutokomanawa Ko te Tama! The Son (Jesus Christ)

Ihu Karaiti Wairua Tapu! The Holy Spirit (Our Instructor)

Kaitohutohu Ko Whaea! Our mother (Our beautiful Lady)

Christ is at the heart of all we do, constantly bringing hope into our situations and bringing us into a relationship with the Father through the Holy Spirit. Mary helps us to ponder in our hearts this mystery. She is the best example of Hope, as it says in the Gospel “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” (Elizabeth speaking to Mary, her cousin after she had conceived Jesus in her womb).

Let ask the Lord to guide us in hope and to trust that his promises will never fail; For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
