Netball - Flora Beynon Cup

Terena Molloy —

Two-day WCSS Flora Beynon Cup in Hokitika.

On the 19th and 20th August, our senior girls Netball team competed in the annual Flora Beynon Netball Tournament.

The girls played 3 games on Wednesday, with their first game being against Karamea which they won 33-2. The second game was against Greymouth High School which they lost 32-16. The final game of the day was against Reefton which they won 25-6.

Day 2 of the tournament the girls had another 3 games as well as having to play a final. Their first game of the day, they played Westland High School which they won 28-18. The second game was against South Westland Area School which they won 23-18. The third game was against Buller High School which they won 26-12.

As they finished in the top 2 of 7 high schools, they then had the final playoff for 1st & 2nd. After playing 3 games back to back, our girls went into the final very tired and sore, but despite the tough draw, they put up a great fight against Greymouth High School. The final score was 29-10 to Grey High, so John Paul II came away with a very impressive second place.

The team was: Phoenix Smith, Mya Mahuika, Renae Smith, Bronah Gibbens, Claire McCann, Fika Motu, Reama Motu, Rebecca Mann, Stella Futter & Neve Davidson.
