Representative Sport Successes

Well done to our students who were selected for and competed in representative teams during the holidays.

SOUTH ISLAND SCORPIONS RUGBY LEAGUE

U16 SCORPIONS

Payton Guthrie was selected for the Under 16s South Island Scorpions team. They won the National tournament in the holidays. It has never been won ever by any Scorpions team so a massive achievement. They won all pool games (Coastline 60-0, Mid Central Vipers 32-4, Bay of Plenty 28-16). They played Auckland Vulcans in the semi-final and won 24-0. They won the final against Waikato 26-10. Payton scored tries and had game time in the final. This is the first Scorpions team of any grade to win a national title.

U18 SCORPIONS

Matthew Molloy (and Aston Wilson) were selected for the Under 18s South Island Scorpions team. The team made it to the grand final, though went down to Counties Manukau 24-12.

WEST COAST U15 HOCKEY

WEST COAST UNDER 15 GIRLS Hockey

Grace Hahn and Sarsha Sweeney played in the U15 Girls representative team. They won their first game of the tournament against ‘Canterbury Mary Deakins’ 3-0. Grace scored 2 goals. The next day, the girls claimed their second win for the tournament, beating North Otago 4-1. Grace managed to score 2 goals in the game, and was one of the Players of the Day. They went down 1-3 to ‘Canterbury Sue Innes’. Grace scored the only goal for the Coast. With a record of four wins and two losses, West Coast ended in 4th place out of 19 South Island girl's teams. Grace was the team captain and lead the team well. Coach Amanda Hopkins was very impressed with how well the girls played together as a team to achieve an excellent result at tournament.

TASMAN REGION UNDER 15 BOYS HOCKEY

Jack Honey, Kade Howe, and Flynn Swinburn were selected in the Tasman Region Boys squad, which combined players from West Coast, Buller and Nelson. In their game against Central Otago, Jack Honey got a mention as part of a strong Tasman defensive screen conceding just a single goal in the first three quarters. Kade and Flynn contributed to creating chances up front. The whole team was selected as "Most Improved" in the tournament, with all players showing great progress through the week of the competition.
