Catholic Character

Our Lenten journey continues. Last Sunday we celebrated Laetare Sunday, also known as Rose Sunday or Rejoicing Sunday.

The name comes from the first words of the entrance antiphon for the mass, ‘Laetare Jerusalem’ meaning ‘Rejoice, O Jerusalem’ and is a time to celebrate all of the spiritual joy we have gained from the first half of our Lenten journey in which we draw closer to the person of Jesus Christ through prayer, fasting and giving.

As we continue our journey towards the solemnities of the great mysteries of our faith at Easter, may we pray for one another, that each member of our community might truly experience the presence of Jesus in a profound and deeply moving way this Lent.

The Mission Team

The mission team is currently planning the Holy Thursday Liturgy and the Easter Liturgy for the first Wednesday of Easter when we return to school after the Easter break. These liturgies will help us to reflect on the significance of these Easter days and the beauty of Christ’s love for us all.

Bishop Lyons

Our Bishop Lyons team really did us proud at Marian College last weekend. Their participation was wonderful and the way they interacted with students and staff from the other schools was really impressive. Our students’ faith shone through in their answers to the religious questions. Their comments showed an authentic relationship with God and the church and Olivia Johansen’s responses to the questions related to the scripture were insightful. Katie impressed us with her beautiful prepared speech on why Catholic education is so important. Our debating team argued their points effectively and really engaged the audience with their style and flair.

Lenten Collection and St Patrick’s Day Celebration

To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, the students were invited to dress in green and to wear Irish accessories. The collection of cans and coins was really impressive and St Vincent de Paul will be pleased to receive the students’ contribution of non-perishable food items. The money collected, almost $180.00 will go towards the Caritas Cambodia appeal.

We continue to pray for all of our students, their families and all members of our school community. May Lent be a special time for all of you.
