UN Youth Ambassador Programme

In February this year we were contacted by UN Youth, they wanted to know if any of our students wanted to be part of their Ambassador Programme.

The High School Ambassador programme is a mentorship programme run by UN Youth Canterbury for young people. UN Youth New Zealand is a registered charity run by youth, for youth. Tertiary students from all around the country dedicate their time towards creating educational content and running events for young aspiring high-school students. Opportunities range from Model United Nations to civics-based workshops that allow students to get a feel for their place in the world.

UN Youth gives young people a comprehensive insight into the inner workings of the United Nations and all things international relations. They aim to inspire global citizens to have a heightened sense of confidence in themselves and in their voices. UN Youth provide a platform where youth can project their voices, their perspectives and their diversity on a regional, national and international stage. Public speaking, negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, among others, are cultivated at every event. Participants can create networks and make meaningful connections in a positive environment facilitated by their fantastic tertiary volunteers.

5 of our students went through the process of applying, having references made and being interviewed for the position. All 5 students were successful – Congratulations to:

Dome and Szonja Wiedermann, Rachel Francis, Pyper Murphy and Sarah Manoj.
