English Department

Our English Department has had a thriving Term One so far. Year 13 English have been exploring William Shakespeare's Othello and have been challenged to think critically about the Universal Themes and Social Issues that it presents.

Year 12 have been working on their Writing Portfolios and have been crafting pieces towards a publication standard. Year 11 have examined a range of language contexts, including the language of protest, social issues, formal occasions and sports commentaries. Our Year 10 students have been learning about this term’s theme ‘Our Social World’ and will be preparing pieces of writing analysing aspects of this theme. Likewise our Year 9 students have been learning about their Term One theme, ‘Identity’ through stories like Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach and have begun the important work of learning how to structure effective paragraphs.

We have several keen students in Year 13 who are preparing to enter into the National Poetry Award. We wish them all the best with this competition. We also need to celebrate our wonderful Bishop Lyons competitors who represented John Paul II High School wonderfully through debating and public speaking. Well done to all those who took part!
