Catholic Character

“Whatever you did to the least of these you did to me.”

Last Sunday we celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King. The Gospel reading for the day reminded us that our King is a Servant King and a king whose kingdom is not of this world, a Kingdom based on Love and Service.

During Karakia on Monday we reflected on this idea of what it means to be part of the Kingdom of God and how we can reach out to those in need as Christ did. We considered the idea that if Christ is the king not just of our world but actually, the king of our hearts then we will be people who reach out to those hungry for acceptance and love, thirsting for care and support, in prisons of loneliness, vulnerable and isolated just as Jesus did.

Thanksgiving Mass

Preparations are well underway for our Thanksgiving mass, the final full-school mass of the year. We are really looking forward to this special occasion during which we will announce our student leadership team for 2024. We are delighted that we will have two Mercy Sisters and three Marist Brothers with us to celebrate a wonderful, enriching year of Catholic education here on the Coast. The Thanksgiving Mass is on Thursday 7 December at 6pm at Saint Patrick’s Church. We hope to see as many of you there to celebrate with us as possible.

Connections with the Parish - Parish Events

Some important upcoming parish events that we would like to invite all of our families to are:

  • The Parish Christmas Cultural Gathering at the Marist Rugby League rooms on 16 December at 7pm.

  • A working bee at the Kumara Catholic Church to get it ready for Christmas on Sunday 17 December from 2pm until 4pm.

  • The Saint Patrick’s Parish picnic on 11 February (more information about this to come but you are asked to keep the date free so as to be able to enjoy this day as a parish family)

It would be great to see as many people as possible at these lovely parish events.

Advent

This Sunday we begin our Advent journey with this being the first Sunday of Advent. The themes for the four Sundays of Advent are as follows:

  • First Sunday of Advent - Hope

  • Second Sunday of Advent - Peace

  • Third Sunday of Advent - Joy

  • Fourth Sunday of Advent - Love

We wish all of our students, staff and families a beautiful Advent journey as we prepare to welcome Christ into our hearts this Christmas. May Christ journey with you and bless you all.
