Kapa Haka and Mau Rakau

Get involved!

We have Kapa Haka and Mau Rākau practice every Thursday morning now, as part of our timetable. Students are welcome to attend both, or one or the other. This is open to all our students. Whaea Paula Iraia leads the Kapa Haka and Matua Jerry Pū leads Mau Rakau, with their team supporting. Staff are welcome to participate too.

Students will not be disadvantaged by missing their usual timetabled class during this time, teachers will support them to participate, and to catch up on any class work needed. Very soon, we will have this Kapa Haka as a normal part of our timetable. If you want to participate in Kapa Haka and Mau Rākau, come along!

Students will have opportunities to participate in the Tai Poutini school’s Kapa Haka Festival and attend noho marae (intensive training with an overnight sleepover) at Arahura with other secondary school students on the Coast.
