Athletics

Last week we gathered as a school at Anzac Park to take part in John Paul II High School athletics day.

The school was unable to hold athletics day in 2022 due to covid restrictions it was great to see everyone being able to participate this year, with students wearing their house colours.

Congratulations to the following athletes for being the top of their ages groups -

Under 14 - Keil Guthrie, Isabel Johansen

Under 15 - Samuel Bryan, Grace Hahn, Grace Motu, Katie Boddy, Nicole Pangilinan

Over 16 - Olivia Johansen, Liam Donaldson, Mathew Molloy, Terrence Guilder.

Athletics day is an opportunity for houses to get a good amount of points for the start of the year. 1st = Saints (145), 2nd = Mawhera (93), 3rd = Anahera (92), 4th = Marist (77), 5th = Columba (75).

To end the day, we had the highly anticipated house relay race where each house has a team of four to compete against each other as well as a staff team. The race was very competitive and intense as everyone was trying their best to win for their house, but the staff took the win this year.

A huge thank you to Miss Dodemaide and Mr McNish and staff recording results and timing, which made our athletics day run smoothly.

Next week our top athletes will be competing against athletes from other schools at the West Coast Secondary Schools Athletics. Good luck to everyone competing.
